The online member communities category, made up mostly of social media networks, has grown its audience 12% in a year, according to Nielsen.

Nielsen's Australian Online Landscape Review for April shows the category is growing year-on-year but is down for the month due to seasonal factors such as Easter and school holidays.

Facebook leads the pack and reached 10.8 million Australians in April. Its nearest rival, Blogger, was miles behind with a reach of 4.5 million people, followed by Wordpress with 2.3 million and Twitter with 1.9 million.

Facebook is also in front on 'stickiness' with the most average time spent of eight and a half hours. Twitter is second with 21 minutes, followed by Pinterest with 20 minutes. Google+ lags behind several others and only clocked in an average of just over six minutes.

The report also showed mobile page views have grown 182% in the last 12 months.

The total number of online Australians in April was 15.3 million people, down 5.1% due to seasonal factors.
