Will the iconic Ansett brand see a resurgence? An ad campaign depicting an Ansett branded plane has sparked the interest of numerous people who are keen to see the brand make a comeback.
A print ad placed in Melbourne's Age newspaper last week featured an image of an Ansett branded plane, with an email address for people to write in to.
The ad was placed by Peter Schooling, the director of Melbourne ad agency BravoTangoBravo. Schooling told AdNews he had registered the Ansett Airlines of Australia name last year, after discovering it had been de-registered, and had placed the ad as an “exploratory” exercise to see if the brand still held any salience.
He said: “Like many people I have become jaded at the number of iconic Australian brands that seem to be disappearing or moving to foreign ownership.
“After doing some checking around on the web, and my own limited enquiries, I came to the conclusion that the name was still highly regarded and despite many frequent flyers (myself included) losing points, this had done little to dampen enthusiasm for the brand.”
Schooling said fans have come out of the woodwork to show their support for the Ansett brand, with over 1700 website responses on ansettairlines.com.au and more than 200 emails.
“For my part, I wanted to see if an iconic brand can be re-established,” Schooling told AdNews. “If someone was to come to me, I would happily hand the brand over if they wanted to bring it back.”
