Sports endorsement facilitator Pickstar has raised $1m from investors as it looks to expand operations into New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

First launched by former AFL players James Begley and Matthew Pavlich in 2013, Pickstar is an online marketplace which allows elite athletes seeking commercial opportunities to connect with fans and corporations.

Fans can set a budget and parameters, and the platform puts them in touch with interested athletes.

Pickstar currently has a portfolio of more than 900 athletes and sports personalities, and has closed deals ranging from $200 to six figure endorsements.

“Pickstar has already facilitated more than 1000 commercial opportunities between sport stars and clients ranging from fans, schools and clubs through to major brands and their agencies,” says Begley.

The platform has been relaunched as an automated system and the $1m raised will go towards continual improvements to the technology and expansion into overseas markets.

Pickstar is expecting to expand into both New Zealand and the United Kingdom within 12 months.
