SYDNEY: The Seven Network is to launch a new men's digital channel featuring sport called 7mate next month.

7mate will launch on 25 September with high definition coverage of the Australian Football League Grand Final in a bid to target men in the 16-49 bracket.

Chief executive officer of Seven Media Group, David Leckie, said: ““The launch of 7mate delivers us a tremendous platform of channels targeting specific audience demographics – leveraging our primary channel’s success with women and 7TWO’s targeting of a 25+ adult audience.

“We’re delighted to be the first commercial network to move to three channels. With 7HD we were first into multi-channelling for the commercial networks and this is another significant step for our television business.

Separately, Seven has revealed it is going to produce an Australian version of Iron Chef, which became a cult hit on SBS when dubbed into english from japanese.

Three of Australia’s top chefs – Neil Perry, Guy Grossi and Guillaume Brahimi – will become ‘Iron Chefs’ on the arena-style cooking competition series.

Production is set to commence in Melbourne next month. The format of the show sees ‘Iron Chefs’ compete against aspiring professional cooks in a battle against the clock to produce the best menu.
