Japanese ad agency Dentsu has confirmed its re-entry into the Australian market, with its first office set to open in February to service Toyota's Yaris account.

Dentsu's Australian operation will report into Dentsu Network West, a network of Dentsu-owned companies in North America, Latin America and Europe, which is headquartered in New York, with regional hubs in London and São Paolo. It was established as recently as October.

Dentsu's Australian office will service pre-existing international client relationships and forge new local partnerships. Official confirmation of Dentsu's re-entry into the Australian market, after it had a prescence in the 1990s, came from New York, suggesting the launch will be overseen by the American operation.

Dentsu Network West chief executive Tim Andree said: "As a network, our primary purpose is to provide services that enable our clients success in any market they aim to reach. We've been interested in Australia for some time now, and are excited to be investing in this market."

News of the opening comes after it emerged last week that Droga5 had lost the Yaris business just three months after winning a place on the car maker's roster.

Droga5 announced it had been ditched by Toyota in an official release, which also revealed Dentsu would take over the account and in the process become the agency's first Australian client.
