Telco brand Vodafone is merging its marketing and sales functions into a single department, in a move that will see the departure of its chief marketing officer John Casey.

Vodafone confirmed to AdNews that changes will be made to its organisation structure and its executive team over the coming weeks. The combined sales and marketing department will report into the director Noel Hamill, while Vodafone's communications and corporate affairs team will also report into sales and marketing.

"While the restructure will result in changes across most functions in the company the outcome will be a Vodafone that is more responsive to customers and more cost effective in a highly competitive market," a company spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said Vodafone is "currently exploring other opportunities" for Casey and director of communications and corporate affairs Tanya Bowes. Futher redundancies in the sales and marketing team are possible.

“We can't confirm whether there will be redundancies in this area as we are currently working through the details of a restructure,” the spokesperson said.

AdNews ranked Vodafone's 'Onions' ad by Host as one of the worst TV ads of 2011. In September the Advertising Standards Bureau banned a Vodafone ad which depicted cyver bullying by comparing a woman to a dog.
