Network Ten's gamble of moving its premium Sunday night line-up forward paid off but was eclipsed last night by the Bernard Tomic and Roger Federer match on Seven.

Ten was banking on a big start to the year by bringing forward its ratings season launch three weeks with an attractive line-up of new premieres both local and international. However, the network was unlucky to be up against a draw card match which saw the Australian teenager dominated by Swiss legend Federer in a three setter in the fourth round of the Australian Open, which drew in metropolitan 1.60 million viewers, according to OzTam.

Ten said it is pleased with how its "Super Sunday" line-up performed on its debut, with the four programs occupying positions three to six in the top 10 programs yesterday and all cracking the 1 million mark over the three hour block.

The relaunch of 1970s and 80s youth performance show Young Talent Time drew in 1.05 million people while US comedy Modern Family saw 1.13 million viewers tune in.

The heavily promoted premiere of comedy series New Girl was Ten's highest rated for the night with 1.28 million viewers. Golden Globe-award winning American drama series Homeland, shown on Showtime stateside, debuted to 1.22 million people.

New Girl and Homeland were the top two programs in the 18-49 demographic.

Ten chief programming officer, David Mott, said: "Despite going up against a one-off event like The Australian Open, last night's YTT premiere certainly had everybody talking.

"Super Sunday is a long term proposition, not a one-week schedule fix. This year, Ten will be relentless in its focus on delivering the kind of memorable entertainment that viewers want to watch. We think Super Sunday is so good that we're encoring three of the night's key shows in prime-time slots this week."

Young Talent Time, New Girl and Homeland will have encore screenings on Tuesday night from 8pm.

Across the night, Seven won with a 30.7% audience share across all people, followed by Ten with 19.4%. Nine had 13.2%, the ABC had 9.6% and SBS had 3.8%.
