Ten was victorious in the battle for eyeballs on Tuesday as The Biggest Loser's finale claimed the top two rungs of the ratings ladder.
The weight loss competition show went out with a bang as it drew in 1.36 million and 1.34 million people across its two time slots, according to preliminary overnight figures from OzTam. The finale was a good result for the program which has averaged in the 700,000 to 1 million range all season.
Early on in the year, the head-to-head rivalry between The Biggest Loser and Nine's Excess Baggage saw the latter relegated to Nine's digital channel Go as it shed ratings at a much greater rate than the contestants lost weight.
MasterChef gained marginally on the previous night with 1.07 million people but was only 11th on the ratings rank. So far this season the former ratings juggernaut has failed to gain momentum on its 1.36 million debut audience on Sunday night. On Monday, the show had 1 million people.
Nine's The Block was fifth for the night with 1.20 million viewers while a repeat of The Big Bang Theory was ninth with 1.10 million people tuned in.
On Seven, the news bulletin was the most watched program for the network. Local drama Packed to the Rafters remained in the low million range in sixth spot with 1.17 million viewers. In previous seasons, the show enjoyed steady ratings around the 1.5 million range.
Other programs in the top 20 were Nine News, Today Tonight (Seven), The Force (Seven), A Current Affair (Nine), Home and Away (Seven), ABC News, Border Security (Seven), 2 Broke Girls (Nine), Budget 2012 (ABC), Ten News, Missing (Seven) and Hot Seat (Nine).
The race for pole position in audience share across all people was closely fought with Seven just edging out its rivals with 22.9%. Ten was second with 21.7%, followed by Nine with 19.3%, the ABC with 11.3% and SBS had 4.0. In the coveted 18 to 49 demographic, Ten claimed a convincing victory with 29.3% of audience share.
