Seven clawed its way back to the top spot for the first time this ratings week as Australia's Got Talent (AGT) found a much-needed extra 400,000 viewers.

Seven's talent franchise, AGT, found a welcome reprieve last night with The Voice off the air until Sunday. The reality series was the most watched program on Wednesday with 1.39 million metro viewers tuned in, according to preliminary overnight figures from OzTam.

AGT's 2012 season debuted to 1.19 million viewers on Monday, far below expectations and dropped below a million people on Tuesday. In contrast, Nine's The Voice, which AGT directly competed against, has been booming with an average 2.3 million viewers for its first three nights.

Nine's new series of The Celebrity Apprentice premiered to a disappointing 908,000 viewers in ninth position. Last year's season opener attracted 1.32 million people while the program drew a steady audience between 1.1 million and 1.6 million viewers throughout 2011.

Renovations reality series The Block drew 1.13 million viewers, slightly down from the previous night's 1.30 million people.

Ten's new season of local drama Offspring was 13th for the evening with 728,000 viewers. The Biggest Loser had 773,000 viewers.

Across the main channels, Seven returned to first place with 23.6% of audience share, followed by Nine with 21.1%, Ten with 14.1%, the ABC with 10.7% and SBS had 5.3%.
