Nine is threatening Seven's so-far unchallenged dominance in 2012 with The Voice building on its debut audience to a phenomenal 2.54 million viewers.
Competition talent series The Voice came out on top on a night of 'big' programming, as the series drew in over two and a half million metro viewers, according to overnight preliminary figures from OzTam. With regional viewers, that figures climbs to an average audience of 3.38 million people. On Sunday, the show premiered to 2.17 million people.
Nine Entertainment Co group sales and marketing director, Peter Wiltshire, said: “To have such a big audience on opening night, and then increase by another 300,000 on the second night, that is an amazing result. Advertisers are going to want to be around a show of such significance. So far, it's been a great week. Early days yet, but a great week.”
The return of last year's rating juggernaut The Block in the prior timeslot was watched by 1.40 million viewers. Nine News also beat out Seven's news bulletin and was the third most watched program on Monday with 1.27 million people.
The 2012 launch of Australia's Got Talent was in sixth spot with 1.19 million viewers. The show, which features controversial personality Kyle Sandilands, was directly up against The Block and then The Voice on Nine.
Seven's US drama series Revenge declined significantly last night, pulling in 1.1 million viewers, and was in eighth position. Previously, the prime time soap was averaging in the 1.7 to 2.0 million range when My Kitchen Rules was its lead-in. Its first outing without MKR saw the show drop to 1.41 million.
Today, Seven announced Revenge actors Emily Van Camp and Josh Bowman will be making a visit to Australia at the end of this month to promote the series.
Ten's highest rated program, The Biggest Loser, was in 11th place with 825,000 viewers.
Across the main channels, Nine convincingly won the night with 32.1% of audience share, followed by Seven on 21.5%. The ABC overtook Ten for third with 12.4% while Ten had 10.9% and SBS had 3.0%.
