eBay questioned
eBay is being questioned over a Victorian man who was arrested yesterday for allegedly stockpiling explosive chemicals purchased from its UK and US sites. The man allegedly collected more than $17,000 worth of explosive chemicals from both sites over a period of 12 months.

New iPad app for Domain
Domain.com.au has launched an app for the iPad. Building on the previously released iPhone app the new iPad version offers an number of new features including the ‘around me’ function allowing users to search for properties in their immediate area using the iPad’s GPS function.

More tabloids accused of phone hacking
Trinty Mirror has launched a review into whether its journalists hacked telephones after claims by one of its former reporters wiped 10% off the worth of Britain's biggest newspaper publisher.  The Australian revealed last Friday that former finance journalist James Hipwell was willing to give evidence to a pending judicial inquiry that the practice was common when he worked at the Daily Mirror in the late 1990s and 2000.

Morgan says phone hacking is widespread
CNN 'Tonight' host and former tabloid editor Piers Morgan has appeared to suggest in a radio interview that he knew phone hacking was being practised while editor of the Daily Mirror. Morgan told BBC Radio 4′s 'Desert Island Discs' presenter Kirsty Young that stories, obtained by third parties investigators, were published during his time as a tabloid editor.

Splendour in the Grass streamed live
Virgin Mobile has announced it will exclusively stream the line-up from this year’s Splendour in the Grass festival. The festival will include performances by Cold Play, Kaiser Chiefs, Elbow, The Vines, Cloud Control and The Vaccines on Sunday 31st July.

Toyota tops green list
Toyota has been named the greenest global brand in a major study by Interbrand that spans the 10 biggest consumer markets. The research, called Best Global Green Brands, combines public perception of environmental sustainability with performance on publicly available information and data. It covers the US, Japan, China, Germany, France, UK, Italy, Brazil, Spain, and India.

Patmore new G2 Asia Pacific CEO
Martin Patmore has been appointed to regional CEO of G2 Asia Pacific. Patmore, who began his career at Brann Direct in the UK, will be responsible for G2 Asia Pacific’s business units across nine coutnries and 16 cities.

Allianz launches new campaign
MercerBell and OMD have today launched a car park domination campaign for the new Allianz Roadside Assistance program. Unveiling at six car parks across Sydney and Melbourne, the campaign ‘You’ll be ok with Allianz’ will be branded on parking tickets, boom gates, parking bays, floor decals, pillar wraps, eyelites and large wall artworks up to 21 metres in size. The visuals draw from Allianz’s Comprehensive Car Insurance with Roadside Assistance TVC created by MercerBell.

Video Network to launch Melbourne office
Internet TV network The Video Network will launch a Melbourne office in August, following staff growth. The Melbourne office will be led by former Channel 4 Television group commercial director Juliette Stead, who joins as Victorian sales director. In Sydney, Sarah Hassanin has been promoted to NSW sales director.

Yahoo!7 and PMG launch new sites
Yahoo!7 and Prime Media Group have launched Prime7.com.au and GWN7.com.au as part of the Yahoo!7 network. Both sites are part of a partnership which was announced in June, and will feature local and regional content including news, sport, and entertainment designed for regional communities across Australia.

Azimut launches upside down ad
Yacht manufacturer Azimut has launched an upside down advertisement in Modern Boating magazine. The editor of the magazine, Dominic Wiseman, said the placement was done on purpose for the sake of attracting consumers' attention. 

Vivid appoints MD
Aegis Media-owned branding, technology and digital media firm Vivid Group has appointed Community Engine managing director Piers Hogarth-Scott as managing director. He replaces outgoing managing director Damiam Cook, and will oversee more than 40 staff in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne offices. 

Leys joins The Australian
Editor of The Australian’s Media section Stephen Brook has announced Nick Leys will join the team as the new Diary columnist in September. Leys joins The Australian team after a year reporting for the Herald Sun in Melbourne.

Ikon partners with TubeMogul
Ikon Communications has partnered with TubeMogul which sees the online video ad exchange's PlayTime become Ikon's default side platform for video advertising. PlayTime will offer targeting options including contextual, geographic region and audience segment.

McCartney to build female audience
News Ltd is hoping to tap into more female readers with the appointment of former group news magazines editor Karen McCartney to the newly created role of group editorial director for lifestyle content. McCartney will be responsible for developing the editorial strategy for lifestyle content across all News Ltd’s mastheads, with a focus on identifying new growth areas for magazines like the Sunday Telegraph’s Body+ Soul.
