Cannes Lions roars with 800 international entries
The Cannes Lions Awards category of 'Branded Content and Entertainment' will screen around 800 international works from 50 countries during the festival, following a stream of recent submissions into the newly-created category. Designed to recognise the most effective ways of engaging consumers via relevant content platforms, the first-ever winners will be named live on stage during the awards ceremony on 23 June 2012. Prior to this, the festival will host sessions exploring the latest ways to leverage content and engage consumers, and will see supporting seminars throughout the week dedicated to branded content.
UM gets strategic
Media agency UM has continued the expansion of its strategy team with the appointment of Tom Dodd as associate strategy director in its Sydney office. Dodd will report to UM national chief strategy officer Stefan Burford, and will work across major accounts including MasterCard and Brown Forman. Prior to the appointment, Dodd was the communications director at MEC London, and worked with clients such as Colgate, Sony Ericsson and Lionsgate Films. He will start work on 21 May 2012.
Triple M rocks with The Salvation Army
Southern Cross Austereo radio station Triple M will roll out its second annual 'National Busking Day' this Friday 18 May, as part of its partnership with The Salvation Army's 'Red Shield Appeal'. The event will see Triple M host a series of light-hearted busking shows on the streets of Sydney and Melbourne, and is set to include singer/songwriter James Reyne, and musical acts The Dead Leaves and The Smart.
FutureBrand appoints new Asia Pacific chief executive
Global brand consultancy agency FutureBrand has today announced the appointment of Zayn Khan as chief executive of its Asia Pacific branch. Khan was previously based in Kuala Lumpur working at Thinkscape as chief executive and partner, where he had been since 2002. He has significant experience in building brands and shaping marketing strategies across a wide range of industries. The new appoinment will see him now based in Shanghai, and will be effective from 1 June 2012.
PostClick opens Brisbane office
Ad network PostClick is set to open a new office in Brisbane. The company currently has offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland. Carla Zipper, who opened the company's Melbourne office in 2008, will lead the launch.
