Iconic retailer Bonds has rolled out a series of light-hearted short films starring, and directed by, one of its female ambassadors, actress Rachael Taylor. Set in New York, it shows Taylor having an awkward conversation with a potential love interest who doesn't understand Australian phrases such as "undies" and "trackies". Well stone the flamin' crows.
The first instalment in the three-part "Bonds Love Story - Lost in Translation" series on the brand's YouTube channel. Taylor, a Bonds ambassador, directed and stars as herself in the films. Now that's multi-talented.
Dressed head-to-toe in bonds attire, she runs into her man of the moment on the street. After complimenting her on her appearance, she self-deprecatingly replies that she's "practically in her undies". Confusion ensues, as he says Americans call them "panties", which he admits is a "creepy word". Yes. It is.
He then asks about her "sweats" to which she replies "...Oh, you mean trackies". Awkwardness is heightened when she says she "sweats mainly through her face [...] but not in a gross way. What I'm trying to say is I don't sweat through, like, the lower, underneath parts." Nice.
The banter continues for two minutes, including whether a jumper should be called "sweater" or "sloppy joe". Ah, the joys of transatlantic vernacular integration across social platforms incorporating brand story telling via short-form drama.
