Southern Cross Austereo's controversial Kyle & Jackie O breakfast show has seen its highest ratings ever, with chief content officer Guy Dobson saying an increase in advertising rates is “open for discussion”.
The Sydney breakfast show grabbed an audience share of 12.7%, up 2.1 percentage points on the previous survey, according to the latest Nielsen radio survey, which measured radio audiences between 24 June and 1 September.
Dobson said the result was the highest ratings that Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O have ever pulled in the breakfast slot, and was the strongest breakfast ratings the station has seen since 2002.
Dobson told AdNews: “The result is great-tastic. It's so good we are making up a new word for it.”
The advertiser exodus from the show several months ago does not seem to be a problem any more, with Dobson saying: “Our advertising slate is growing.”
The show had landed in some hot water when Sandilands called a News Limited journalist a “fat slag”.
When asked if the strong ratings would allow the broadcaster to increase its advertising rates, Dobson said: “We haven't properly talked about it yet, but it's open for discussion.”
Meanwhile, the top rating Sydney station for the period was once again Macquarie Radio Network's 2GB, with 14.2% audience share.
In Melbourne, Fairfax's 3AW took the crown with 16.2% share.
The Brisbane market saw DMG's Nova 106.9 take the top spot with 12.2%, while in Adelaide Australian Radio Network's Mix 102.3 was the winner with 15.7% share.
