Fairfax Metro Media has revamped the structure of its marketing operations with the creation of a multiplatform consumer group to be headed by Robert Whitehead.
Whitehead was previously director of marketing and newspaper sales for The Sydney Morning Herald for seven years. He takes on the role of head of marketing and communication and will oversee consumer marketing including brand, promotion, sponsorship, subscriptions acquisition, retention and communication.
The first priorities for the Metro Media marketing team will be the launch of the tabloid formats of the SMH and The Age. It will also be responsible for Fairfax’s forthcoming digital subscriptions model next year.
Earlier in the year, Fairfax was recruiting for a chief marketing officer.
Fairfax Metro Media chief executive Jack Matthews said: “The creation of this new consumer marketing group led by Robert Whitehead ensures we have the marketing skills and resources needed to take us to the next stage of Metro Media’s development, which encompasses a raft of innovative projects and initiatives.”
Trade marketing will continue to be the remit of national trade marketing director Chelsea Wymer who reports to commercial director Ed Harrison.
