Advertisers to extend Sandilands boycott

The fallout from the latest Kyle Sandilands controversy looks set to continue, with a raft of major advertisers pledging to continue their boycott into 2012.

Brands including Coles, Bunnings, Vodafone, McDonald's, Ford and Blackmores have indicated that they will not advertise on any program Sandilands hosts next year.

On a statement on the Change.org website, Coles said: "Our very clear position in relation to the offensive and inappropriate comments made by Kyle Sandilands remains that we are not and will not advertise on programmes hosted by him."

Vodafone said it was "committed to not advertising on any show (TV or radio) hosted by Kyle Sandilands in 2012", while Blackmores said all advertising with Austereo was on hold until it spoke with the network's management "about how they will handle this situation".

Similarly, Ford said: "Ford won't be advertising with the Kyle & Jackie O show or other Austereo programs with which Kyle is involved (such as the Top 40 for example) at all going forward. Our action to withdraw that advertising was permanent."

As of 2pm, the companies on the Change.org website pledging to continue their boycott into 2012 are Coles, Bunnings, Vodafone, McDonald's, Blackmores, Ford, CUA, Tourism NSW, University of NSW, NIDA, Beaurepaires, Amex, GIO, Libra and the Art Gallery of NSW.

So far, more than 26,500 people have signed the anti-Sandilands petition, with over 60 advertisers withdrawing their support at at estimated cost of $8 million, according to Change.

Sandilands sparked the latest furore two weeks ago when he launched a vitriolic on-air attack on News Limited journalist Alison Stephenson, following a negative review of his new Channel Seven television show, Kyle and Jackie O's Night with the Stars.
