McLennan eyes new demographic
Network Ten boss Hamish McLennan has confirmed plans to target an older demographic, The
Australian has reported. Ten has previously targeted younger viewers, but some of the don't watch TV anymore, so the new core is 25-54 year olds. McLennan
will also lead a new strategy centred on "event" programs
to rival Seven and Nine, the paper reported.
...And defends cricket bid
The Australian Financial Review (AFR) - which
also reported Ten's audience shift - said
McLennan had further backed the network's ambitious $500 million bid for the
cricket rights. "Everything's budgeted for," he told the
AFR. "With those programs also comes expected revenue and
hopefully higher shares. That's the science of television: balance
what you'll make with the investment you put into the business."
Less joyous
And finally, the SMH has the low-down
on the circus that has been the More Joyous enquiry. Gai Waterhouse, after being "treated like a third-rate person"
and had her family "dragged through the mud" in recent weeks, was fined $5500 on two charges. She
failed to tell stewards the horse was unwell and failed to keep the horse's
treatment records up to date. Waterhouse's lawyers said she would
appeal the charges.
Former ad man John Singleton was earlier fined $15,000 on two charges of conduct prejudicial to racing, the paper reported.
