ZenithOptimedia has promoted former head of digital operations Geraldine McDonagh to the role of chief digital officer left vacant by the departure of head of digital, Ros Allison.

McDonagh has taken up the position with immediate effect after Allison left the agency.

ZenithOptimedia new CEO Matt James says: “Geraldine is an extremely talented, professional and passionate person with deep technical expertise.

"She will now be a critical member of our executive leadership team and I am looking forward to how she will lead our digital charge in 2016 and will no doubt create a formidable proposition.”

McDonagh adds that ZO has "strong digital talent and a compelling digital proposition" that she is looking forward to building on.

In October last year, it was revealed Nine's Matt James would lead the Publicis-owned media agency as Ian Perrin stepped down from the agency he led for four years.

Perrin is likely to take on an as yet undisclosed role within the ZO network, but it's not known whether this is in Australia or overseas. It's thought that he could be heading to the US.
