Our Young Guns profile takes a weekly look at some of the young talent aged 30 or under across the advertising, ad tech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles, people and companies across the industry.

Last week's Young Gun was Country Road marketing manager, Paul Conti. This week, we head to Victoria to meet Cornwell design director Adit Wardhana.

How long have you been in the industry?

About eight years.

Duration in current role/time at the company:

Three years this September.

What were you doing before this job and how did you get this gig?

I was with Frost in Sydney and wanted to move back to Melbourne. Vince introduced me to Steve Cornwell, and I have been with Cornwell ever since.

Define your job in one word:

Design.

What were your real and cliché expectations of working in the industry?

That I will join a strange secret society whose ritual is to spend days finding the right typeface for a project.

How does the reality match up?

I am now part of a strange secret society whose ritual is to spend weeks finding the right typeface for a project.

How would you describe what the company does and what does your role involve?

We’re an all-round creative agency. My role involves overseeing a team of designers to make sure we all deliver the client’s brief and surpass their expectation.

Best thing about the industry you work in:

Gold foil. So much gold foil.

Any major hard learnings in the job so far?

Approaching design from business and management point of view.

If you had to switch over to another department, which would it be and why?

Final Art. There's something about order, rules and zen that appeals to me.

What's exciting you about the industry right now?

Everyone is trying to do new things at a really rapid rate. The pressure to always be switched on and be on top of things is kind of exciting and scary at the same time.

What concerns you about the industry and its future?

Readily available softwares that might just decrease the value of our craft.

Who's your right hand person/who guides you day to day?

Deanna, also design director at Cornwell. We collaborate a lot these days.

What is the elephant in the room?

Everyone’s obsession with Lineto’s typefaces: Brown and Circular.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

Magazines.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I’m actually not 23 years old.

What’s your personal motto?

Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

I got into advertising/ad tech/marketing etc because:

I like pretty things.

If I wasn't doing this for a living, I'd be:

Bored.
