Our Young Guns profile takes a weekly look at some of the young talent across the advertising, ad tech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles, people and companies across the buzzing industry.

Today we speak to senior account manager Isabel Blanchard.

Time in current role/time at the company:

Current role for five months, total of two years in the company.

How long have you been in the industry?

Almost four years.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

I was looking for an exciting opportunity in what looked like a fast-paced, enterprising industry of media and advertising.

Reflecting on my past jobs in retail banking, I don’t think there was a plan in place or somewhere I wanted to be – I was hungry for knowledge, flexibility, and autonomy.

Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?

There are many people who have helped me get to where I am. I’m naturally inquisitive and impatient so I have Andrew Lawson, our GM to thank – for listening and being a patient mentor.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

The intelligent people and technology – the industry feels like a proverbial candy shop.

And the biggest challenge?

Getting everyone to buy the best candy.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

No one’s. I would like to invent something.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

Nature. I let my mind wander when I am in a quiet, open, and comfortable space.

My favourite advert is (and why):

Recently discovered Sakeru Gum’s series of ads. Quirky, funny, makes you want to see the characters interact with the product.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

And they still don’t.

In five years' time I'll be:

Either running some open-source online portal or setting up an off-grid farm.
