Our Young Gun profile takes a look at some of the young talent across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles, people and companies across the buzzing industry.

Today we speak to Switched On account executive Rachel Tobia.

How long have you been in the industry?
Just over two years.

How did you get here?
1xUni degree and a coffee with my now manager.

Who's your right-hand person?
My manager, Katya Vakulenko, my Ukrainian weapon and the person who has taught me everything from martech, advertising spy tools, self-management and client tips and tricks. She challenges me, always, and I couldn't be more thankful for it. As well as each and every person I work with and have come across during my time in marketing, I'm thankful that each question I ask is taken with respect.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
It's incredibly fast-paced, young, progressive, challenging, open-ended and ever-growing. That's more than one thing but I think they all feed into each other nicely.

For me, the biggest advantage about this industry is being able to speak with so many inspiring people who started out just like you. That's cool, you forget that no one really knows where their future lies, the more you listen and learn from these people, the more you can grow and determine where you want to go. There are so many people doing amazing things for brands and people that isn't spoken about when you do your marketing degree.

And the biggest challenge?
Taking a step out of the day-to-day, and realising that marketing to consumers and changing behaviours, is more than swapping words and colour on a site.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
In a dream, I'd love to be head of marketing and brand for Nike.

Where do you turn for inspiration?
People, beautiful images, sunrise.

My favourite advert is:

Goosebumps... every time.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
This is hard because I'm a massive over-sharer. Maybe that I don't have a Spotify premium account...

In five years’, time, I'll be:
On a Spotify premium account.
