Young Gun: Akcelo senior account manager Audrey Man

14 January 2021

Our Young Gun profile takes a look at some of the young talent across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles, people and companies across the buzzing industry.

Today we speak to Akcelo senior account manager Audrey Man.

Time at the company:
Six weeks but that accounts for close to 20% of Akcelo’s lifespan!

How long have you been in the industry?
Almost four years.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
I always had an innate sense of creativity but made the “safe choice” in university by opting for a commerce degree (but with a major in marketing). The inner marketer in me eventually emerged and I knew I wanted to join a creative agency and I was fortunate enough to secure a role at Leo Burnett in Sydney. It was also a great way to make the move out of Canberra!

Who is your right hand person?
My manager, Bethany Ryan as she’s an all-round legend who I’m excited to learn from.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
Being surrounded by the brightest and most talented people in the industry and having the ability to learn from like-minded individuals. It’s kinda like the Marvel Cinematic Universe; where I’ll embark upon a solo mission but for a hefty project/task, we’ll get all hands on deck and summon the Avengers.

And the biggest challenge?
Only having one coffee a day.

Who’s jobs have you set your sights on in the future?
I’ve always tried not to be too fixated on a particular role or title. I also don’t want to limit any possibilities because who knows, my future role might not even exist right now. Like with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2017, who knows what Endgame is actually going to look like?

Where do you turn for inspiration?
The people around me and a good Spotify playlist (to name a few... Mood Booster to get my day going, Songs to Sing in the Car when I’m with the crew and All Out 00s because Beyoncé).

My favourite advert is:
I hadn’t even heard of the brand (Ruavieja) before seeing this ad but it’s a piece of content that prompts you to reflect upon your life, the choices you’ve made and how you prioritise the people in your circle. It’s insane how well-made and confronting this film for Ruavieja liquor is; and how it makes you cry (the first time and every time after that).

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you:
Not sure if this counts as most people know this about me, but I’m an avid rock climber (but without the ropes).

In five years time, I’ll be…
A people-first leader and mentor for people starting out in the industry and a proud owner of a golden retriever.
