Havas Group has appointed Virginia Hyland to the role of CEO, Havas Media Group Australia.

The appointment follows Havas' acquisition of her agency, Hyland, earlier this year.

“In acquiring Virginia's market-leading independent media agency, there's incredible momentum in our team and with clients," Havas Group ANZ chairman Anthony Freedman says.

"Virginia is an impressive industry leader and entrepreneur, so we are excited about her taking the helm of our media business as it builds scale."

Hyland will work with Havas Media Group ANZ chairman Mike Wilson and the agency’s senior leadership team to advance strategic plans for a "comprehensive and agile" media offering across Australia and New Zealand.

“We are already seeing the power of bringing diverse talent together to create more dynamic solutions for clients," Hyland says.

"I am excited about shaping the next chapter for the media business with innovation at its core.”

Hyland takes over from Matt Houltham who departs Havas Media Group after more than four years in senior roles at the company.

“Matt has been a key part of our business, initially in Melbourne and more recently on a national basis and we would like to thank him for his hard work and commitment, never more evident and necessary than during this challenging year," Freedman says.

"We wish him every success in all that lies ahead."

Houltham joined Havas in 2016 from Naked Communications as group MD before being promoted to CEO last year.

“I would like to thank Matt for his guidance and advice since becoming part of the Havas Media team and wish him success in the future,” Hyland says.

Houltham's next move is not yet known.
