Virgin Australia has appointed former NAB exec Michael Nearhos as its marketing director.

Nearhos has spent the last five years at NAB, most recently as the GM of brand experience. His role was made redundant at the bank following a restructure of the marketing department as CMO Andrew Knott departed.

His appointment comes several months after the departure of CMO Inese Kingsmill. Her role will not replaced, instead Nearhos will lead the department as marketing director.

Virgin Australia group executive of brand, marketing and public affairs Danielle Keighery says she was delighted to appoint Nearhos to the new role.

“Virgin Australia is one of the most well respected and loved brands and I look forward to having Michael on board to support our marketing efforts,” she said.

“Michael has extensive experience with implementing a range of major brand and marketing initiatives and generating significant results across traditional and digital channels.”

Nearhos says he's thrilled to join Virgin Australia and looks forward to working with such an iconic brand.

“Virgin Australia is an exciting and innovative brand and I can’t wait to work with the team and continue to deliver great results for the business.”

He commences in the new role in early September.
