Vegemite has concluded its battle with Marmite following Australia's win at the Ashes and the return of the Urn to home soil.

In the spirit of being good sports, Australia's national spread sent the charred remains of Marmite on a piece of toast back to Marmite's office in the UK inside the Mitey Ashes Urn.

“It was a Mitey battle and we kept the real Ashes, but hopefully the cremated piece of toast will adorn their mantle until we do battle again," Vegemite senior marketing manager Matt Gray says.

Marmite continued a salty smear campaign on Vegemite and Australia throughout the Ashes, referencing the infamous ball tampering scandal in an ad in UK newspaper The Mirror and then handing out branded sandpaper at the cricket.

During the third test though, while those who love it put Marmite on their toast - and those who hate it had something else - the English heard a "rousing" radio ad gently reminding them why Australia will win the Ashes.

Thinkerbell was behind Vegemite's mitey victory campaign, while London's adam&eveDDB created Marmite's defence.
