Unlucky in love: The Bachelor launch misses top 10

The launch of The Bachelor Australia bombed for Ten last night, failing to make the top 10 free-to-air shows in a tough timeslot up against The X Factor and The Block Glasshouse.

An audience of 692,000 tuned in to The Bachelor, on Ten, making it the 12th most-watched program across Australia's five metro areas. The network will now hope the audience buids as the series progresses as it did with MasterChef Australia.

Seven's The X Factor led the reality shows, in sixth position with 914,000 viewers.

And Nine's The Block Glasshouse was ninth, with an audience of 813,000, according to preliminary overnight ratings figures from OzTam.

It wasn't all bad news for Ten though – the network won the biggest audience share last night, taking 29.6%. Seven followed with 28.6% and Nine took 23.7%.

That was largely due to Ten's coverage of the Commonwealth Games, on Channel Ten and One, which pulled in audiences of 656,000 and 553,000 respectively. Ten's game show Family Feud, meanwhile, won 621,000 viewers.

Ten's Offspring was the network's only show to make the top 10, with an audience of 847,000 putting it in eighth spot.

The most-watched show was Nine News, with 1.152 million people tuning in, followed by Seven News with 1.122 million, Nine News at 6.30 with 1.087 million, and Seven's Today Tonight with 1.023 million.

Completing the top 10 was Nine's A Current Affair, fifth with 948,000 viewers, Seven's Home and Away, seventh with 866,000, and ABC News, 10th with 792,000.
