Twitter has signalled that it will make a significant above-the-line push in Australia, and is on the lookout for a media agency, AdNews understands.

The social network is also adding a creative agency to its books, with the business preparing to announce an agency partner imminently.

A number of media agencies in Sydney have been sounded out, with media pitching taking place this week.

Twitter being on the lookout for a media agency, and naming a creative agency, is a signal that Twitter will push into above-the-line media in order to attract more users onto the platform.

Earlier this month AdNews revealed that Twitter was looking for a head of consumer marketing, with the role to report into the global consumer marketing team in San Francisco.

AdNews can also confirm that Twitter is on the lookout for a head of growth and a brand strategist, further signalling its intentions in the Australian market.

Globally, Facebook and Twitter are both beefing up their above the line efforts

At this stage, it is not known how much the account would be worth.
