The WFH Diaries - Finn Astle at VERSA

By AdNews | 27 April 2020

AdNews brings the stories of those working from home (WFH) in the advertising and media industry during the coronavirus crisis.

Finn Astle is a creative at VERSA.

How are you dealing with the silence?
Silence is golden, long silences can be awkward, the silence of self isolation is confronting. Dealing with silence is about being comfortable with it, and ultimately comfortability with yourself and your immediate surroundings. I try to recognise the silences that are golden, talk during long silences (in Zoom calls) and accept that confronting silence will happen.

What’s the upside?
My housemates, we’re feeling more connected. We’ve made up job titles, are eating together more, started painting our house together, even go for runs around the park. We may start a commune post covid.

The downside?
I want a f*ckin refund on 2020. Feels like this year has been a bit of a pause personally and professionally, but as the young and impatient we need to acknowledge the extraordinary circumstances and just focus on surviving as a collective.

How are you using the commuting time saved?
Haven’t thought about it, although cycling to work took me eight minutes, which in a year is roughly 2,000 minutes, which is 33 hours. So whatever you’re doing enjoy it!

I am looking forward to being back in the office because…
So many reasons, collaboration, culture, not working in my bedroom, the office dogs, but most of all I just miss the people who are in that office, work is a community that we are distant from right now.
