Sydney-based indie agency The Hallway is plotting a Melbourne shop, AdNews can reveal.

The Hallway won creative duties for ANZ's Bank Cards earlier this year, which is based in Melbourne. The agency now works on the brand’s digital and data-driven marketing for its Cards team.

Founded by Jules Hall, The Hallway opened its Sydney office in 2007. At around 45 people it's not the biggest shop in town, but it has an established reputation that it hopes to carry down to Melbourne.

While The Hallway wouldn't reveal who will be running its Melbourne operations, LinkedIn shows several staff have joined the team, including two account managers, a group account director and a head of copy.

AdNews understands it plans to further establish its Melbourne presence in early 2018.

Hall says: "At this stage our priority is delivering highly affective work for ANZ. But, yes, word has spread and we’re getting approached by some very interesting clients who want to tap into our data-driven creativity. So far none of them have cited the fact that we are NSW Agency of the Year as a sticking point! Will we officially open a Melbourne office? Time will tell."

As more agencies eye Melbourne, the competition in the smaller market is heating up.

This year, The Monkeys and With Collective have both announced they are plotting to open Melbourne offices. R/GA is also ramping up its presence in the market.
