Tennis Australia has appointed J. Walter Thompson’s director of digital APAC, Josie Brown, as chief insights and marketing officer.

In the newly created role, Brown will lead Tennis Australia’s digital marketing, reporting directly to CEO Craig Tiley.

Brown had previously worked for Procter and Gamble, ninemsn and Lufthansa before joining JWT in 2011. She will begin her new role at Tennis Australia in September.

“We are delighted to welcome Josie Brown to the team and believe she will help us grow our organisation’s customer focus and insights driven decision-making while expanding our brand presence across the globe,” Tiley says.

“I'm thrilled to be joining Tennis Australia at an exciting time when technology is connecting fans to their tennis experiences in new ways,” says Brown.

“Harnessing the power of data and innovation has enormous potential to increase tennis participation in Australia. I'm looking forward to working with the team to develop and enhance consumer experiences.”

The move follows Nine snagging the tennis rights as Seven caved and slashed $11m off the asking price.

Last month Nine unveiled its plans for the 2019 Australian Open, focusing around a new 'cross-pillar' strategy on its news, sport, lifestyle and entertainment assets.

The plan, revealed at Tennis Australia’s First Serve event in Melbourne, highlighted how Tennis Australia would work with Nine to continue to expand the Australian Open into a broader community event.
