Telstra’s director of brand & advertising Chantal Walker has resigned, as the company announces a new role for former Microsoft marketer Inese Kingsmill.

Telstra is set to formally announce the changes today, which see Kingsmill take a newly created role as director of business unit marketing & communications. She starts on 8 November.

Kingsmill was director of strategy, marketing and programs at Microsoft and has been with the company since 1994.

Walker was second in charge to former executive director of marketing Amanda Johnston-Pell, who resigned from the company last month, and was acting executive director of marketing during Johnston-Pell’s maternity leave.

Walker joined Telstra in early 2005, working initially in BigPond before joining Telstra's marketing communications group in 2008 as director of brands advertising and digital.

Walker is the latest senior executive to depart as Telstra's marketing department continues to undergo changes, following the appointment of chief marketing officer Kate McKenzie earlier this year. McKenzie appointed former adman Mark Collis, who is currently director of creativity, innovation and brand strategy.

The changes will fuel widespread speculation that the company is preparing to review its agency arrangements. Telstra's current roster includes Ogilvy, BWM, Three Drunk Monkeys, DDB, Naked and Droga5.
