StreamCo the joint venture between Fairfax and Nine is to call its streaming platform Stan.

The revealing of the name comes as an event is about to kick off this morning hosted by Rebel Wilson.

Nine and Fairfax are each investing $50 million in the venture.

Through Stan they want to carve a share of the competitive streaming market and take on Foxtel and its recently extended video on demand offer through it's BoxSets channel and its Presto offer.

StreamCo is investing significantly in securing rights for TV film content and is also expected to commission its own content.

An announcement on Presto is expected in the coming weeks after Foxtel CEO Richard Freudenstein hinted there was more to come from the streaming platform at the upfronts last week. Speculation is that Seven and Ten may join the subscription service with execs from both networks spotted at the Foxtel upfronts.

Netflix is rumoured to launch in Australia early next year, although it hasn’t conformed a launch date. The US service has talked about launching in Australia for five years, but speculation has mounted in the last year, and reports that it has appointed Droga5 as its creative agency emerging this week, although not confirmed.

AJF was appointed by StreamCo in September to handled its creative duties.
