Subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service Stan will enter 2016 with a brand new marketing director, as it readies itself to build upon its half a million subscriber base.

Melanie Novacan, who joins from CommSec, will lead the team in a newly-created marketing director role. Her appointment follows the exit last September of head of marketing, Fiona King, who had been with the company for 19 months.

Novacan has held senior marketing positions across brand, acquisition, product management, CRM and sponsorships in numerous organisations, but was most recently senior manager for Brand, Acquisition, Sponsorship and Cross Sell at CommSec.

Stan CEO Mike Sneesby said: “Melanie’s depth of experience in brand and acquisition marketing will be a core factor in evolving Stan’s marketing strategy as our business and brand reaches more and more Australians. Melanie has a unique set of skills and experience gained across multiple industries that are central to our plans for growth."

The Nine Entertainment Co and Fairfax joint venture appointed OMD as its media agency in September and has since added a further 200,000 subscribers to a total 500,000.
