The content offering for StreamCo's streaming video on demand platform Stan is becoming clearer, with the platform tying up a multi-year content deal with MGM Studios, highlighting mini-series Fargo as a highlight of the tie-up despite a lag between the FTA showing and the SVOD offering.

The exclusive deal will cover the SVOD rights for this year's US mini-series, as well as the already announced second season, but it is believed will be shown on SBS on free-to-air before it is streamed on the SVOD platform.

A spokesperson was not sure on how wide the gap between the free-to-air airing of episodes and the SVOD airing of the show would be.

Stan will also host MGM's first-run movie titles at launch including the second film in The Hobbit trilogy, The Desolation of Smaug, as well as a host of back-catalogue titles.

However, the big sell from StreamCo was the addition of Fargo to the roster.

“Fargo has proved to be one of 2014’s best new series and adds to the line-up of high-quality dramas Stan will have at launch,” StreamCo CEO Mike Sneesby said.

The Emmy award-winning mini-series was based on the black comedy by the Coen brothers, who also produced the mini-series starring Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman.

The show has been announced for a second season, and it is believed that it will be shown after SBS airs the show on free-to-air as SBS has tied up the first-run content rights in Australia.

It will also be showing Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul “as quickly as technology allows”, with StreamCo grabbing the first-run rights in Australia.

The new announcement helps fill in some of the information gap about the service in the marketplace, after the platform launched earlier this month with little detail about the service revealed.

It previously said that the service would be about $10 per month, and there would be no ads.
