Small miners consider ad campaign

SYDNEY: Small mining companies are considering whether to restart the anti-mining tax ad campaign, as first revealed by AdNews.

The prospect of the campaign being restarted comes as fresh concerns are raised over the Greens’ views on mining if they take control of the Senate in the August 21 elections.

It comes after AdNews reported on the 8 July that media owners and agencies could be set for another boost from the controversial tax.

Smaller oil and gas companies have been considering the launch of an ad campaign over the changes to the tax threshold, which exempts "junior" coal and iron-ore producers.

Simon Bennison, chief executive of the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC), said today: "We're still assessing the future of the campaign. We're certainly not ruling it out."

Bennison said a campaign could be launched this weekend, but maybe delayed and is dependent on the views of AMEC members.
