Seven has dominated ratings in all key demographics overnight, taking out the top three spots with its broadcast of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The Opening Ceremony reached just over two million viewers, while the Countdown and Highlights broadcasts drew in a viewership or 1.35m and 1.09m respectively.

Seven's broadcast of the ceremony was the biggest in over a decade, outperforming both the Summer and Winter Olympics and Commonwealth Games.

The ceremony also performed strongly on digital platforms, more than doubling the number of live streams received by the recent Winter Olympics.

The network also took 52.7% of the overall network share, compared to 18.4% for Nine and 11% for Ten.

Seven's return to top ratings' top spot has been long awaited, as the network suffered a slump, in part due to the performance of Australian Spartan.
