SelecTV enters administration

By By Prue Corlette | 4 February 2011

SelecTV, the WIN-owned pay TV operator, has entered voluntary administration four years after a $47 million takeover of the company.

The TV network was launched in 2005 as a low-cost pay TV service for Greek, Italian and Spanish speaking communities, as well as offering English language programming. At its peak, it had 45,000 subscribers.

In late 2010, the English, Spanish and Italian subscriber audiences were sold off, with English subscribers going to Foxtel, Italian to World Media International and Spanish to UBI World TV.

The channel continued its Greek broadcasing until administrators acting for accountants Grant Thornton ceased all operations last week.

WIN television is Australia's largest regional broadcaster, and is a key piece in the media portfolio of owner Bruce Gordon.
