Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has revealed a new team for its struggling 2Day FM breakfast program, taking it back to a traditional talk show format.

The 2DayFM Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed and Erin replaces the music-only program that was adopted in August 2019, following poor ratings for the program since Kyle and Jackie O departed for ARN in 2013. The last team to host the morning show was Grant Denyer, Ed Kavalee and Ash London, and about 10 other hosts have sat behind the mics, including big names such as Sophie Monk, Rove McManus, Mel B, and, Grant Denyer.

The new team, which sees Ed Kavalee return with Dave Hughesy and Erin Molan joining, starts January 18.

“We’re lucky to have a brilliantly hilarious and established show sitting in our fold that Sydney already knows and loves and is ready to hit the ground running in 2021,’ says SCA chief content officer Dave Cameron.

“Hughesy had the number one drive show in Sydney for many years and collectively the crew are all trusted, strong performers in our target market.

“In bringing back a headline breakfast show again to 2Day, it was critical for us to deliver the combination of established chemistry, familiarity, existing high passion for our talent, deep breakfast radio experience and, most importantly, a show focussed completely on Sydney every morning. The 2DayFM Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed and Erin will bring a clever wit with a show that’s already at the top of its game. We can’t wait to make strong inroads and get 2Day pumping again.”

At the time of axing the talent-driven format, SCA head of the Hit Network Gemma Fordham told AdNews it was encouraged by the network’s 2Day’s Workday ratings, which had grown over the last year with a music-focused format.
