These are truly the awards no one wants to win.

Consumer focused organisation, Choice, has unveiled its annual Shonky award winners and this year Samsung, Kleenex, Coca-Cola, Ikea and the National Australia Bank are all in the firing line for having some of the 'shonkiest' products on the market.

Of this years entrants Choice chief executive, Alan Kirkland, said: “Sadly the Choice Shonky Awards is in its 10th year and this latest crop of lemons deserves to be juiced.

“From payday lenders that prey on the vulnerable to laundry products that just don’t work, it is clear business still needs to sharpen up its act. With over 400 shonky products and services being nominated, it looks like we’ll be back again next year,” he added.

When it comes to what makes a shonky – there doesn't seem to be a hard and fast rule - but these products seem to have a few things in common such as misleading claims aka Ikea's fabulous winning product of a leather couch that doesn't contain leather.

Hiding the truth is also a theme, like Coca-Cola giving money to an organisation that hopes to end obesity by balancing the amount of “energy” we put into our bodies with the amount we put out. Meaning that drinking Coke is fine as long as you exercise. Choice aptly claims this is a bunch of fizz.
