Philip Newton, who leads marketing for Samsung Australia, is exiting after two years in the role.

Newton, who is corporate vice president and chief marketing officer, joined Samsung in 2010. He took over as CMO in 2015 when his predecessor Arno Lenoir left.

He will leave on 9 August and Samsung is currently searching for a replacement with a new CMO expected to be named in the coming weeks.

He is the first, and only, Samsung Australia employee appointed as a corporate vice president by Samsung, which demonstrates he was held in high regard at the Korean electronics firm.

Last year he told AdNews that the position meant that he could directly influence business decisions not just marketing within Samsung.

During his time as CMO, he spearheaded a partnership with netball in Australia and launched the Rethink Role Models campaign.

Samsung Electronics Australia president Harry Lee says: “Philip has helped to transform our business to achieve growth and leadership across a number of business areas including IT and business-to-business, home appliances and TVs, where he increased market share from 17% to 30% within a six month period.

"He has also driven the corporate marketing team to achieve significant improvements in key marketing metrics, which have contributed to the growth of our brand over the last 18 months. His departure will be felt throughout the company but we wish him every success for the future.”

Newton says: “Samsung is a true innovator and leader within consumer electronics and it has been a privilege to work for a company that is at the forefront of its industry.
