Maxus already has a shortlist of “a couple” of people for the managing director of Maxus Melbourne, after current boss Nick Keenan elected to take up a role with Maxus client BetEasy.

Maxus CEO Johnathan Chadwick confirmed the news this morning, saying that he was aware of the potential move for a couple of weeks. Keenan will become the commercial director at the online betting agency.

“He had been talking with them for a couple of weeks about the move, and he did keep us in the loop, but it did take us by surprise a bit,” Chadwick said.

“We're going to miss him a lot, but the good news is that we'll get to work with him as BetEasy is one of our clients.”

Chadwick said up-and-comer Karly Fragiacomo would take on the MD role on a temporary basis, with Chadwick saying she was in with a shout for the job full-time.

“She has been told the job is on a caretaker basis, but she is definitely with a shout of keeping the job full-time,” Chadwick said.

Chadwick also confirmed that there was already a shortlist of “a couple of people” for the MD position, saying that he was targeting both fellow agencies and client-side for candidates.

“We're definitely looking at both of those options,” Chadwick said.

Keenan will be staying on until March to ensure a clean transition, and Chadwick said it was hoped the recruitment process would be done and dusted by the time Keenan departs.

Keenan has left Maxus Melbourne in good shape, with its most recent win the $15 million iSelect account.
