Australians are set to head to the polls on 2 July as Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull officially announced the much anticipated election date yesterday (8 May).

Below are the front pages from today and also the weekend, from The Age, The Australian Financial Review, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian, just to name a few.

Yesterday Twitter kicked off with more than 57,000 #ausvotes related Tweets.

Twitter has launched educated politics and election handle (@govAU) to share updates from #ausvotes and track creative uses of Twitter #auspol candidates throughout the election campaign.

#Election16 is currently trending on Twitter, with more than 37,000 tweets.
