OMD has hired John Betts, previously group business director at ZenithOptimedia, to lead the McDonald's account. He takes up the position group business director.

The hire follows the appointment of Gideon Hornung back in April as head of strategy on the same account, after he switched from GroupM to the Omnicom-owned firm.

Betts, who recently penned an opinion piece for AdNews refuting alleged fraudulent industry tactics, has worked at various agencies over the past 12 years and his experience covers multiple categories including financial services, telecommunications, technology, automotive, government, travel and retail, as well as all aspects of digital media including display, video, search, mobile and affiliates.

OMD Sydney managing director Mark Jarrett said: “Jon’s breadth of specialist digital experience and broader client oversight make him perfectly qualified for the challenges of this role”.

Betts added: “I have been impressed by the team and business Horgs has been building at OMD. When he and Mark Jarrett offered me the opportunity to join the OMD Macca's team I was excited by the prospect of working on such a highly regarded account.”

Betts will be based in Sydney and will report to Mark Jarrett.
