The Nova Entertainment has united this year, supporting Movember in memory of Mark Downes, the company's chief technology officer, who passed away suddenly in May due to heart failure this year.

A long-time colleague and "respected friend and member" of Nova's executive team, Downes' contribution to the industry was highlighted by Nova CEO Cathy O’Connor, who spoke at this year’s Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs).

O'Connor took the stage at the annual awards event for the commercial radio sector, honouring the passion Downes had for the industry.

Many of the group executive and senior management team, as well as many staff around the country, are growing moustaches to raise funds and awareness for men’s health.

Nova said the initiative is creating "an interesting" look around the office. In particular, group general manager Peter Colosimo has been singled out for looking more like Freddie Mercury.

Downes held the position of CTO within the business since July, 2011, managing the technical operations for the network, while driving further digital and linear technological development.

Downes, who had been a long time radio and technology executive, also worked at Southern Cross Austereo and at Sky Channel.

The team has nearly reached its target of $15,000, with the total currently at $14,827 you can donate here.
