Nine has reported a coronavirus event at its Willoughby complex.

US actor Rita Wilson, wife of Tom Hanks, who appeared in the Today studio earlier this week as a guest on Today Extra with David Campbell and Belinda Russell, has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

"In line with Nine’s crisis response plan, employees who had extended contact with Ms Wilson during her visit to the Willoughby studio have been sent home (as per government guidelines) and instructed to self-isolate and closely monitor their health," Nine says.

They will be tested for COVID-19 if they display symptoms.

Tracy Grimshaw is not hosting ACA tonight as a precautionary measure since she had minor surgery last week.

Karl Stefanovic will host in her place. Arrangements for hosts for Today Extra are still being confirmed.

"We have also closed off the affected areas at Nine Willoughby and are in the process of disinfecting," Nine says.

Nine told staff: "As this is a fast-moving situation, we will update all employees as more information comes to hand. In the meantime, we strongly encourage all employees to continue following the Australian Government and health authority guidelines to avoid contracting or spreading the virus. This information can be found in the COVID-19 FAQs on the intranet and in the attached document."
