NewsMediaWorks CEO Mark Hollands has resigned. Having spent almost four years working for the company, Hollands will depart as CEO at the end of February. There is no word yet of his future plans.

Chairman of NewsMediaWorks, Michael Miller, thanks Hollands for his contribution to the company and wider news media sector.

“The board wishes to thank Mark for his important contribution to NewsMediaWorks as well as the wider news media sector. The industry body will continue to focus on helping create operational efficiencies for the benefit of all publisher members,” Miller says.

NewsMediaWorks recently moved from its offices in Pyrmont to within the News Corp building as part of a cost-cutting measure. AdNews understands there have been concerns expressed internally about the body's impartiality following the move.

The future direction of NewsMediaWorks is unclear at this point as it considers the wider role it plays in the industry.

Sources confirm the body will continue to run the metric system emma and the newly-launched News Media Index, but its core role could undergo some changes.

NewsMediaWorks confirms it will replace Hollands role, however they did not specify in what capacity.

“I’d like to thank my colleagues, who continue to make an important and enthusiastic contribution to our industry. They share my love of this industry and respect for those who work so hard to deliver journalism to our nation every day," Hollands says.

“It has been a pleasure to work with them. The time is right to move on, however, as I have a number of personal interests in Australia and overseas that I wish to pursue.”
