There's been an explosion in people visiting realestate.com.au and domain.com.au as Australia's real estate obsession plays out, while Ninemsn has overtaken stablemate Daily Mail Australia in the latest Nielsen online rankings.

Released today, news.com.au remains the number-one news site in the country with a unique audience of 3.85 million in the month of March, followed by smh.com.au which managed to bring 3.77 million people to the site.

News.com.au also managed to beat out smh.com.au on page views, sessions per person, and time per person.

Elsewhere in news sites the big move was Ninemsn over stablemate The Daily Mail Australia, on the back of Ninemsn gaining 300,000 more unique viewers over the month compared to February.

However, real estate is seemingly of more interest to punters with realestate.com.au bringing in more than 4 million unique viewers in March, a 15% spike on February's numbers.

Rival real estate site domain.com.au reached an all-time high in March, boasting 2.46 million unique visitors in March, a massive 38% increase month on month.

Hotel booking and hotel sites also grew as a category, up 14% year on year.
