State of Origin II pulls 2.4m metro viewers

Nearly 200,000 fewer Sydneysiders watched the Queensland Maroons wrap up the State of Origin series than those who switched on for Game I. The second game is almost always the highest rater as it is do-or-die for one team.

The game attracted a metro audience of 2.4 million, which was down on the record 2.7 million viewers for Game I, while the national audience of 3.55 million was also below the 3.95 million for Game I.

An almost identical Brisbane audience of around 800,000 watched both games, but in Sydney the TV audience fell to just under 1 million from nearly 1.2 million in Game I. The drop shows how little hope some fans had the NSW Blues could turn around the series in Brisbane after losing Game I in Sydney.

Despite this, the second encounter was far more entertaining and the Blues had chances to keep the series alive but were less clinical than the Cane Toads when it mattered, going down 26-16. Queensland has now won 10 of the past 11 series - the most dominant era since rugby league's showstopper began in 1982.

Yahoo7 launches lifestyle platform

Yahoo7 has unveiled a new lifestyle and entertainment website called 'Be', which will launche in July. The site focuses on ‘personality-driven’ content from radio personality Maz Compton, ex-My Kitchen Rules contestants Ash Pollard and Scott Gooding.

The move was strategised to leverage new audience habits, such as embracing shareable videos, and designed with a mobile audience in mind.
