Nova bolsters sales management team

Nova Entertainment has promoted Stephanie Loupelis to national head of commercial partnerships within the Create team and Marie Lacey as Melbourne group sales manager. Loupelis previously headed Melbourne agency group sales, managing some of the company's largest commercial partnerships and integrations. She will work under Create director of commercial strategy Kate Day, leading the team responsible for creating and managing Nova Entertainment’s market partnerships. She has previously held management positions at MTV Networks Australia and Ignite Media Brands. Lacey joins Nova from Bauer Media where she was a group sales manager for five years. She takes Loupelis old role and both begin today.

Twitter and Sky ink EPL deadline day deal

Twitter will broadcast live coverage of Sky Sports' transfer deadline day, providing a global audience with up-to-date wheeling and dealing of English football. Sky's deadline day rolling program is a staple among English Premier League fans desperately keeping an eye on last minute deals that could help their club strengthen in the winter transfer window. For Twitter, the deal is its first European live content partnership and another step in its re-positioning as the digital platform for live sports experiences. Twitter will deliver a global live stream from the Sky Sports newsroom at 12-1pm, 5-6pm and the final hour from 10-11pm today.

SCA to sell TV assets to WIN

Southern Cross Media Group has entered talks to sell its northern NSW television assets and operations and buy WIN's i98FM radio station in Wollongong. SCA's affiliation agreement with Nine doesn't cover northern NSW, which is already served by NBN. Instead SCA has an affiliation licence to continue broadcasting for old metropolitan partner Ten. The asset sale would relive SCA of TV operations on northern NSW while plugging a radio station gap in Wollongong, the 11th most populous region in Australia. It would also allow SCA to cross-sell across TV and radio in the steel city.

Is Trump targeting the tech industry?

It seems Trump is hitting back at the technology industry, after the CEOs Airbnb, Apple, Google and Uber railed against his move to ban refugees and travellers from mainly Muslim countries. According to a report from Bloomberg, his administration has drafted an executive order aimed at overhauling the work-visa programs technology companies depend on to hire tens of thousands of employees each year. If implemented, the reforms could shift the way American companies like Microsoft and Amazon recruit talent.

Is Facebook taking on Spotify?

Facebook appears to be gearing up its challenge to the music steaming industry after poaching one of YouTube’s key music directors in Tamara Hrivnak, according to a report in The Drum. Hrivnak leaves her position as director of music partnerships at YouTube and Google Play to lead Facebook’s global music strategy and business development in the US. If Facebook enters into the music market, players like Spotify and Pandora can expect a huge shake-up both locally and globally.

Maxibon backs eSports

Ice cream sandwich brand, Peters Maxibon, is among the first FMCG brand to tap into and partner with Australian online gaming platform eSports. Maxibon will sponsor team Avant Garde. Originating in the early 1970s, eSports has now grown into a worldwide competitive gaming hub where teams play in leagues for prizes of up to USD$10m. The partnership was orchestrated by Maxibon's internal media agencies Zenith and Double Jump Communications.
