Guardian Media Group to cut 250 jobs

Guardian Media Group UK is planning to cut 250 jobs – including 100 in editorial – and to restructure the less profitable parts of the company in a bid to break even within three years, reports the Guardian.

The UK workforce is expected to be cut by 18%, or 310 jobs, as about 60 positions in both commercial and editorial remain unfilled. The company hopes all cuts will be made by voluntary redundancies.

M&C Saatchi acquires New York-based MCD Partners

M&C Saatchi Group has acquired a majority stake in MCD Partners, a digital customer experience agency, through its CRM and direct marketing agency Lida.

The New York-based agency will be led by MCD Partners co-founders Ian Magnani, John Caruso, and Wasim Choudhury.

Lida Australia MD Christine Gardner says MCD Partners will be a "stellar" addition to the network, adding firepower to its local offering.

"Through the forging of this partnership, there will be continued cross-pollination of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques and expansion of the current ‘LIDA exchange’, which enables talent transfer on a 12 month rotation across the LIDA Group," Gardner says.

UnLtd connects charity with agency, sees donations double

Media agency Initiative’s support for the annual Sweetheart’s Day campaign has seen donations to the charity more than double.

HeartKids had a very modest budget allocated to media spend, which Initiative turned into bonus value of over $750,000 in donated media across TV, print, out of home, digital and radio. UnLtd CEO Steve Taitoko said this is what happens when a charity client with a limited media budget asks for UnLtd’s support.

Luke Chess joins Mammal

Mammal has announced Luke Chess will join the agency as creative partner. Chess joins the team from his previous position as executive creative director at MJW.

He replaces Mammal co-founder Gary Cunliffe who has left to pursue interests in New York. He will be working with managing partner Adrian Leppard to continue to “evolve the business”.
